Reading like a historian
According to the Stanford History Education Group's website, "The Reading Like a Historian curriculum engages students in historical inquiry. Each lesson revolves around a central historical question and features sets of primary documents designed for groups of students with diverse reading skills and abilities. This curriculum teaches students how to investigate historical questions by employing reading strategies such as sourcing, contextualizing, corroborating, and close reading. Instead of memorizing historical facts, students evaluate the trustworthiness of multiple perspectives on historical issues. They learn to make historical claims backed by documentary evidence."
The work of this group and the RLH curriculum will prove invaluable in this course.

3 professors and a primary source
What happens when 3 history professors are asked to confront a primary document that they have never seen before? This exciting HIST/HIED exposes teachers to the analytical thought processes that academic historians go through when viewing history through primary documents. This interesting four part video series is an excellent tool for prospective and veteran teachers alike to use when searching for meaningful ways to engage students in an analysis of the past through document-based evidence.
